Awakening Our Roots
Helping Practitioners Navigate The Race Conversation Inside And Outside The Therapy Room To Ensure Positive And Lasting Change
Awaken your colour lens and explore your unconscious bias, without judgement.
'We are all one' by Nerissa McDonald
We are all skin and bones,
Yet we choose to be at war.
If love is the key,
Why don’t we open the door.
It’s hard to fathom why life is still like this.
Our ancestors would be raging, this is not eternal bliss!
I will try to do my part to get the door unlocked,
Our hearts can’t be so cold and blind fully shut off.
We are all one, we might not be the same, but to treat those you judge with such ignorance and disdain!
Remember we all are unique, we all have a story.
You can’t just sit around thinking you can have all the glory.
For the world to be right, for us all to be well, we must look deep, deep down into hell!
It’s uncomfortable and scary but a place we all know.
So go there everyone and reflect…
Look back on what you did and how you felt, then come back and share your story with all who see Orion’s belt!
Only you can decide how to respond to acts of injustice!
‘Living consciously means we think critically about ourselves and the world we live in. We dare to ask ourselves the basic questions who, what, when, where, and why. Answering these questions usually provides us with a level of awareness that enlightens.’ Bell Hooks
Join Our Community!
In the group, we have practical advice, training and support. We can not solve this problem alone, together we can learn and join forces to become a united community of practitioners working towards a change inside and outside of the therapy room.
Your Journey With Me

Meet Nerissa
I am an Accredited Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, a Clinical Supervisor, Certified Cyber Therapist, Reflective Coach and a fellow Master in Black Issues and the Challenge of Racism in Therapeutic and Training Contexts. I am passionate about helping practitioners talk about race both inside and outside their therapy room, supporting them to explore their unconscious bias so that they can become more compassionate practitioners in a way that supports positive and lasting change.
My interest stems from my own experience of finding my voice as a woman of colour in a predominately non-black society. I am on a mission to make the therapeutic space safe enough for dialogues about race and racism, where necessary. I view a world, where ALL practitioners, regardless of race, are well equipped to work with their Black clients and not shy away from having powerful transformational conversations, because of their own inner dialogue.
My Services
I offer bespoke anti-racism trainings for individuals, groups and organisations. If you would like a consultation or would like me to speak at your event then please do get in touch.

Take a Step Towards Understanding Racial Experiences
I work with practitioners and people who want to be more aware of how Black people experience the world. I help them to reflect and learn more about themselves and where their unconscious bias lies enabling them to feel more confident and equipped to provide understanding and compassion.
